Tele-Adherence

The lack of medication adherence has reached crisis proportions in the U.S. and around the world, leading to unnecessary disease progression, disease complications, reduced functional abilities, a lower quality of life, and even death. The statistics are alarming and continue to grow.

The overall average in adherence for patients under treatment of various chronic diseases is only 25% for those who take medications as directed. Of the other 75% who do not take medications as directed, 50% do not fill prescriptions and of the other 50% who do fill the prescription, most do not take more than one dose of a medication (Source: National Pharmaceutical Council and American Hospital Association, 2008). These statistics are especially troubling for populations at greatest risk: low health literacy, children and older Americans.

As part of our Prevention & Wellness Program, Ramsell Technologies has a solution that will help reduce these adverse health and economic consequences. Healthcare providers, insurers, or public payers of healthcare programs can realize significant cost reductions through decreased doctor visits and hospitalization costs as well as incidence of co-morbidities typically associated with major disease states.

The Ramsell Tele-Adherence™ Service
The Tele-Adherence™ Service is delivered as a SaaS application subscription service with the goal to increase medication adherence through use of mobile phones. Individuals under treatment for a particular disease are set up in the system which is hosted and administered centrally.

After a data administration step, lists of patients are contacted and go through a setup process via phone that takes approximately 5 minutes. Once setup is completed, the individuals' drug regimens, a schedule of times and the individual's contact information and profile are used to interact with each patient. This works to increase adherence using a variety of interaction methods that are facilitated by voicemail, SMS text messaging or direct voice contact.

These points-of-contact include:

    Interventions
    Questions
    Follow up for non response
    Regular Check Point Meetings
Medication Adherence Reminders (SMS or Auto Voice)
    Regular Check Point Meetings
    Adherence Reporting/Tracking
